Behind the iron curtain in Vanni

Behind the iron curtain in Vanni

After the failure of the Tigers to control the people of Vanni through the Post Tsunami Operational Management Structure (PTOMS) they and their stooges are now talking about a final assault.

They are maneuvering to give compulsory weapons training to those up to the age of 15 years. But this did not yield any expected big success. They distorted events and incidents occurring outside the districts to confuse and mislead the people. It is apparent that the Vanni people are not prepared to give room for any of this nonsense. It is also apparent that sporadic difference of opinions began to crop up in Vanni between the people and the Tigers. This has gone to the extent of Tigers tendering an apology to the people in Puthukudiyiruppu. This apology came after a Tiger vehicle ran over a civilian.

Media under their control cry out loud saying that the people are appealing to the Tiger leader to launch another war. Tamil people are not that crazy. Some Jaffna residents have moved into Vanni now. On the instructions of the Tigers, some of these families were supportive of numerous of disturbances in Jaffna. The reason for them to move into Vanni now was their fear that they may be attacked by the Army when the Tigers attack the Army.

Many Tiger armed unit leaders as well as those in the administrative leadership in fact do not like war, because their life style has changed and they are of a different mind-set. They have amassed wealth. Palatial houses have been constructed by them. Some more palatial buildings are under construction. Their comfortable life style is derived not only from the LTTE taxes extracted forcibly from the Tamils, but also from the large amount of funds received from foreign countries after tsunami. The real fact is that without any development projects undertaken in the Vanni or relief efforts to the people, they have amassed fortunes for their personal benefits and this has earned the wrath of the people.
