[b]New York, N.Y. 22 January, ([/b] One hundred and sixty eight governments at the World Conference on Disaster Reduction which took place in January 2005, one month after the tsunami struck the Asian region, adopted to incorporate into school curricula the disaster risk awareness education, to inform communities about potential hazards and the importance in adhering to safer building-standards in new constructions, said United Nations tsunami envoy former United States president Bill Clinton in a statement released here to mark the achievements of the World Conference a year ago.

Thousands of lives and billions of dollars lost in the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami on 26 December 2004 could have been saved if disaster reduction strategies had been in place, declared the former president.
