Colombo, 31 December, (Asiantribune.com):Bishops who met the media persons in Kilinochchi were nonplussed when questioned why they were reluctant in issuing a press statement condemning the killing of Joseph Pararajasingham, a Tamil National Alliance Member of Parliament.
When answering the question about the delay in issuing a press statement condemning Joseph Pararajasingam’s murder, Bishop Saundranayagam said that the delay was due to their inability to get full information about the incident.
According to reports the killing took place when the Christmas special mass services were led by Batticaloa Bishop Kinsgley Swampillai at the Church in Batticalao.
A Tamil media person who participated in the media conference held by Bishop Saundranayagam in Kilinochchi told "Asian Tribune" when contacted over the telephone, he expressed sympathy for the Bishops and said, "Poor Bishops, how can they put out a statement condemning the killings? How do they know whether it was not done by the Tigers? So to be on the safe-side they must have decided the best course of action was not to issue any statements regarding the killing."
In the meantime it was learnt that Bishop Rayapppu Joseph - Bishop of Mannar was also there in Kilinochchi to participate in the meeting, but he has not said a word about the 3 policemen of the Sri Lanka’s National Child Protection Authority, who are being held in custody by LTTE since 09 September 2005.
