The Opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party regained its lost status on Wednesday becoming the largest political party in the Maldives again, according to the latest figures released by the Elections Commission.

President Mohamed Nasheed has said that getting ready for the 2013 presidential elections does not mean “obstructing governance” and, if not, it could “trigger a chain reaction causing great damage” to the entire political system.
The Opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) downplayed the loss of majority status in Parliament, saying it still has a greater say over passing bills.
Newly appointed Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party Deputy Leader Umar Naseer, who is not in best of relations with its Leader Thasmeen Ali, told the latter to “bring pride back” to the party after it lost majority status in parliament.
