Colombo, 10 April, (Asiantribune.com): TamilEela Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal led by the breakaway rebel leader, Colonel Karuna, will officially declare open their first Political Office in Batticaloa today at 2 PM, Sri Lanka time.
The new office , "Meenagam", will be the Headquarters of the Eastern Province and it will be located at Govindan Road in the heart of the Batticaloa town.
Thooyavan, spokesman for the TMVP in a statement said that today is the second anniversary of the "Verugal slaughter" by the Vanni Tigers, aided and abetted by the former President Chandrika Kumaratunga. He said: "It was launched on the Good Friday on April 2004, by the ruthless Praba Group who slaughtered dozens of our women cadres mercilessly. Our women fighters were cut to pieces by the ruthless Praba butchers using machete and swords. Praba’s gang also raped many of our women cadres and subsequently killed them. We hope President Kumaratunga will one day hear the cries of our helpless women slaughtered with the help of her army. We also hope that the international community and Erik Solheim who is pressing the Sri Lankan government to take action against us will one day hear the cries of our women raped and butchered by the Vanni Tigers."
