Consensus on national policies important to eradicate country's economic woes

By Q Perera - Our Business Correspondent

Colombo, 18 September, (Asiantribune.com): Promises of politicians are galore to win elections, while some responsible ministers had the audacity to publicly broadcast that deceiving the people is also a part of the political game. Under normal circumstances, misleading the people of a country could become an offence against the very people these politicians clamour to serve.

While deception, political vengeance and other crimes have become the order of the day in this country, these self-serving politicians appear to have not made attempts to solve the pressing issues the country face with no national policies on economy, unemployment, education, health etc., and the negligence have rendered the people into poverty, misery and destitution. All successive governments came to power have ruined the economy by keeping on changing the economic polices.

Yet among them there appear to be a group of people in Sri Lanka clamoring to achieve some semblance of stability to the country's affairs, but so far to no avail. One such concerned person is Ven Dr. Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero, Chief Incumbent, Sri Naga Viharaya, Kotte, an outspoken personality on national issues.

The Ven Sobitha Thero was born in Maduluwawa, in the Colombo District, and became a Thero at the age of 13 years and now has completed 50 years in the Sasanaya. While he has widely read the Buddhist scriptures, he also has obtained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Sri Jayawardenepura University.

The Asian Tribune spoke with this Noble Thero for his views on how to take the country out of its present ills.
