Coup to oust Hakeem from SLMC leadership?

Coup to oust Hakeem from SLMC leadership?

By Munza Mushtaq – Reporting for Asian Tribune

Colombo, 27 February, (Asiantribune.com): Dissidents of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) are contemplating to stage a coup against their former Party by ousting its present leader Rauff Hakeem and other hierarchy members.

Most of these rebels who left the SLMC due to 'differences of opinion' with the party leadership are now 'very seriously' mulling the possibility of ousting Hakeem as they claim that the SLMC has lost all integrity after the death of its founder leader M.H.M. Ashraff and ever since Mr. Hakeem taking over the leadership of the party.

Sources claimed that former party member and now the General Secretary of the Democratic Unity Alliance (DUA) Hafeez Nazeer was spearheading the alleged coup but when contacted him, Mr. Nazeer shot down the rumors of him being involved in it. "I am not interested in the SLMC anymore, that party has lost all its respect and credibility. I am happy with my party, and I don't need to take over another party."

"I personally don't believe in coups, but I have and am democratically challenging the SLMC," he added.
