Cry foul by ousted Muslims

Cry foul by ousted Muslims

By Munza Mushtaq - Reporting for Asian Tribune

Colombo, 31 January, (Asiantribune.com): Some 100,000 Muslims who were ethnically cleansed from the North in October 1990 by the LTTE have expressed their disappointments with successive governments owing to the step motherly treatment doled out to them.

In a memorandum addressed to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse, United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan and the Secretary General of the organization of the Islamic Conference Dr. Mult Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu along with three volumes containing more than 100,000 signatures of these Internally Displaced persons (IDPs), they pointed out that, "now 15 years have lapsed since the most unfortunate incident and historical suffering of the Northern Muslims."

"Up to now the Government of Sri Lanka has failed to meet due rights and needs of these suffering people. Now these helpless Muslim victims are wondering whether they had made a big mistake by placing their trust and confidence in the Sri Lankan government and by sticking within Sri Lanka, while others who fled the country for much lesser reasons had received better treatment and recognition. Had these Muslims too gone to India and other countries they could have received better treatment and recognition."
