A denial that stinks

A denial that stinks

It has been brought to the attention of “Asian Tribune” of a denial by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka which appeared in the web edition of the “Island,” dated 05.10.05, one of the leading and a very popular English language newspapers of Sri Lanka.

The full text of the denial as appeared in the “Island” is given below :

“Foreign Ministry refutes 'Asian Tribune' report”

”The attention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been drawn to a report published by an internet newspaper "The Asian Tribune" claiming that the Sri Lanka Government has funded a group of "hard core Sinhala Buddhists in London" to ban the LTTE in all 25 EU member countries.”

”The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to categorically reject this baseless fabrication which "The Asian Tribune" itself attributes as "exclusive' to the pro-LTTE websites. Neither the government nor the Sri Lanka High Commission in London has any involvement with such a group.”

According to an established practice, if any individual or a government department wishes to deny or contradict a news report that appeared in any news daily, usually they send the denial or contradiction to that particular news daily that carried the objectionable news item.
