Colombo 01 October, ( Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s Central Committee meeting ended in a compromise note, as Chandrika Kumaratunga showed her steaming anger and frustration over Mahinda Rajapakse entering into an agreement with two Buddhist Sinhalese parties by agreeing on a unitary form of government, while she insisted that the accepted policy of her government was ‘federalism.’

However it was observed that majority of the Central Committee members supported Mahinda Rajapakse’s nomination as Party’s candidate in the forthcoming presidential poll and subsequently President Chandrika Kumaratunga reluctantly agreed to support the candidature of the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse in the election.

The Central Committee was scheduled to meet at the President’s residence at 11.AM in the morning on Friday and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse was also present to attend the meeting. However the meeting was delayed and it began only around 1.30 PM in the afternoon and in the meantime Mahinda Rajapkse left without attending the meeting to Alkkaraipattu located in the eastern province.

According to party sources when the Central Committee meeting commenced without Mahinda Rajapakse, it was somewhat a stormy session.
