Dispute over the appointment of Muslims as home guards

By Munza Mushtaq –Reporting for Asian Tribune

Colombo, 15 January, (Asiantribune.com): A fresh dispute has arisen with regard to the recruitment of home guards to the Trincomalee district, following authorities wanting to station the new recruits in villages other than their hometowns.

The youths who had gone for the interviews which included several hundred Muslims had been informed by the authorities that once they are appointed as home guards they will be stationed elsewhere other than in their own villages.

However these youth including the Muslims from villages such as Muttur, Thoppur and Kuchchiveli had protested against this decision and had demanded that they be stationed in their villages so that they can protect their village instead of protecting others, sources said.
