[b]Islamabad, 08 January, (Asiantribune.com):[/b] At least eight Pakistani security personnel were killed when armed assailants attacked a newly built checkpoint near Miran Shah, the headquarters of North Waziristan Agency, neighbouring Afghan border in the wee hours, officials said on Saturday.

“Miscreants killed eight security men by attacking their check-post near Mir Ali and Shokhel areas of North Waziristan Agency at about 2:30 am midnight,” Pakistan’s military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan said.

He said the miscreants armed with rockets and assault rifles attacked the check-post and all eight soldiers guarding the point were killed.

He further said that Pakistani forces backed by helicopters were trying to track down the assailants.

Replying a question regarding US air strike in Pakistani territory, Shaukat Sultan said that the incident being investigated.
