Established Opinion Survey methods and the Asian Tribune Opinion Survey on Sri Lanka

By Daya Gamage – Analysis for Asian Tribune

Washington, D.C. 6 May (Asiantribune.com): In February this year, the most widely used opinion survey company, Public Agenda, was commissioned by America’s foremost foreign policy institute Council of Foreign Affairs, with the assistance of the Ford Foundation, to do a nation-wide survey to get the opinion of Americans on 25 different issues one of which was the Bush administration’s foreign policy plank of creating democracies abroad.

To create a Foreign Policy Index, Public Agenda regularly interviews a nationwide random sample of adult Americans to track the changing state of mind of average Americans toward the United States foreign policy – what worries people most, where they support or resist present foreign policy, what their priorities are and what foreign policy initiatives make sense to them.

Question No. One: Is LTTE genuine in achieving peace through negotiations?

Yes, they are genuine in achieving peace. They will negotiate with the GOSL in Geneva and they will systematically kill people who block their way to peace. The they will get the peace they want (which would be not the same as the "peace" what most people are talking about)

Question No. Two: Is Sri Lanka Govt. genuine in achieving peace through negotiations?

Yes, they are genuine in achieving peace. They will negotiate in Geneva with the Tigers and with the use of intimidation and useless killings in Nothern Sri Lanka they will get the peace they want (which would be not the same as the "peace" what most people are talking about)

The question should be. How are the Tigers / GOSL going to achieve peace? And will this be acceptable for the population of Sri Lanka?

(You can't live without peace. Yes even the Tigers can't live without it. In a peacefull environment for the Tigers, people like Karuna wouldn't have split with them...)

I agree with this article.

I did not respond to both questions. FOr me, first questions is easy to answer. It is pretty clear.

With respect to the second question, even for some people who says no, with a set of questions or, at least, one more question the indrect answer would have been yes.

Recent, for the second question, We were not asked, if GOSL was not genuine what other options were left. Then people woulkd have said eith military NO which means yes.

There a lot of LTTEers writing to this fourm. Even with that, over 80% not genuine anser to first question is pretty impressive.
