European Uninion will proscribe LTTE in Europe very soon - EU officials

London, November 19, Asiantribune.com): European Union has said that the travel ban imposed on the LTTE would not be lifted. This assurance was given to a delegation of Tamil democrats when it met the European Union officials at the EU headquarters in Brussels on Monday 14th November.

A spokesman of the Confederation of Tamil Associations in Europe told ‘Asian Tribune’ that a European Union official has made it clear that the travel ban on the LTTE is not a temporary measure and that it would not be lifted. The EU official had reportedly told a delegation of the Confederation that EU wanted to ban the LTTE in Europe but that this is beling delayed by the dilatory tactics of one or two member countries.

The delegation drew the attention of the EU official to the criminal activities of the LTTE in Europe including intimidation and extortion.

It also raised issues relating to LTTE’s political killings, child abductions and extortions. It drew the attention of the EU official to terrorist propaganda carried on by pro-LTTE media in Europe glorifying suicide bombers in violation of terrorism acts now in force in some EU member countries.

In welcoming this information, the EU official requested members of the Confederation of Tamil Associations to brief the EU about LTTE activities in Europe on a regular basis so that effective action including proscription could be considered.

Members of the Confederation staged a protest demonstration in front of the European Union Office in Brussels in which nearly one hundred and fifty Tamils from several European countries participated.
