[b]European Union must exert pressure on LTTE to bring about peace to the Tamils - Douglas Devananda MP.[/b]

[b]Colombo, 01 October, ( [/b]In a letter addressed to the European Union Presidency, Douglas Devananda MP, in his capacity as the Secretary General of the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party has clarified that the problems of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are different from that of the problems Tamil speaking people in this country are confronted today. He has added that while the problems of the Tamils are political, but LTTE was bent on establishing a fascist separate state in the country embracing the North and east of Sri Lanka, he elaborated.

“We strongly believe that by exerting pressure on the LTTE only it will be possible to bring about a sustainable peace in the north and east, “Douglas Devananda underlined in his letter.

He further wrote, “We welcome the measures European Union has already declared to put an end to terror and violence which is being continuously unleashed by the Tigers. Measures undertaken by the European Union have brought about hope and confidence in the midst of those activists who believes in peace and peaceful settlement.”

“We are confident that those measures you have adopted as far as Sri Lanka is concern, would help to end the festering armed ethnic conflict in this country, “Douglas Devananda pointed out in his letter.
