[b]Foreign Employment Bureau is the biggest rip-off in the Country: Ministers use its funds as their private funds[/b]

[b]Colombo, 04 September, (Asiantribune.com): [/b]Though garment industry is considered as the highest foreign exchange earner for Sri Lanka, the foreign employment agencies claim that the net earnings remitted to the country by migrant workers would be the highest, but in the the garment industry it is said that out of the total earnings around 60 percent goes back as cost for fabrics and other expenses.

Around 1.5 million Sri Lankans are presently employed in other countries and they annually remit around one billion US dollars into the country.

In this context Asian Tribune spoke to Suraj Dandeniya who is now the President of the Association of Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies and a leading foreign employment agent, to find out how the foreign employment system works.

He was born in Moratuwa and studied at St Thomas College, Mt Lavinia. After his higher studies he has emigrated to the United States and has worked there for four years until he returned to Sri Lanka in 1988.

Question: What is the progress you have made as a leading provider of foreign employment?

Suraj Dandeniya: Once I returned to Sri Lanka from the United States, I commenced the foreign employment work.
