Hoax kills one woman and injures 62 on board a plane at Colombo Airport.

Colombo, 09 September, (Asiantribune.com): One Sri Lankan woman was killed and 62 others – mostly Sri Lankan – were injured yesterday at the Katunayake International Airport when panic-stricken passengers rushed to get out of a Saudi Arabian Airlines plane threatened with a bomb on board. Investigations proved it to be a hoax.

The Jeddah-bound Boeing 747 jet, carrying 420 passengers, was taxiing down the runway when the pilot halted the plane and announced emergency evacuation after he was informed by the Control Tower about the likelihood of bomb on board the plane.

The anonymous call received by the Control tower proved to be a hoax that cost a life and injured seriously the passengers rushing to leave the plane. In this rush 12 passengers hit the tarmac directly, though most passengers slid down the chute.

Police are investigating the hoax call.
