[b]Colombo, 08 October, (Asiantribune.com):[/b] Ian Martin, a human rights advisor, will arrive in Sri Lanka today and will remain in the country till 16th of this month. He will be in Kilinochchi meeting the LTTE leadership on 13th and 14th October.

Cabinet Spokesman Nimal Siripala Silva said that Martin who was appointed to deal with the human rights violations by the LTTE, was not able to ‘widely discuss’ the issues, ‘because there were no cordial relations with the rebels.

“Now the LTTE has accepted to receive him,” De Silva added. Martin is to meet representatives of the government, the LTTE and the NGO sector during his visit.

Human Rights Expert Ian Martin, formerly of Amnesty International is scheduled to meet with LTTE’s Political Head S.ParamuTamilselvan on 13 October 2005.

According to LTTE Peace Secretariat, Martin has been visiting Kilinochchi many times last year in the process of his engagement with the LTTE and the Tamil Eelam Police in conducting workshops of Human Rights.

The Tamil Eelam Judicial Services and the North East Secretariat on Human Rights (NESOHR) also had the benefit of his valuable contributions stated LTTE peace secretariat. It further added that the LTTE delegation while in Europe to draft the ISGA proposals also had extensive discussions with Mr. Ian Martin on the human rights aspects in the interim arrangement.
