STF Director killed in claymore explosion

Colombo, 07 August, (Asiantribune.com): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Upul Seneviratne, Director Training Special Task Force (STF) died in an LTTE claymore mine explosion early morning today (07) at Digane, Kandy.Upul Senivaratne succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery.Upul Senivaratne succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery.

Upul Seneviratne, SSP was on his way to the Kattukurunda STF Training Centre, Kalutura when the claymore mine went off at about 4.45 a.m. causing severe injuries to the SSP and his driver AdhikariI.

Both were rushed to Kandy hospital but the SSP succumbed to his injuries while undergoing surgery.

SSP Seneviratne had served in the eastern province, including as head of the STF in the region. He was serving as head of the police commando training school when he was attacked.

A combined cordon and search operation is now being conducted in the area.

According to the latest report, Police Constable A.G.J.S.Adhikhari who drove the vehicle of the slain SSP Upul Seneviratne, which Tiger bkasred blasted, succumbed to his injuries around 9.30 a.m. in the General Hospital Kandy.
