Sri Lanka: Daughter's puberty celebration lands mom in jail

Colombo, 01 November, (Asiantribune.com): A Sri Lankan mother and her lover were arrested by the Moratuwa City Police in Sri Lanka, as they were busy packing heroin to 'earn money for their daughter's ‘coming of age party' (or, the puberty party) a Sinhala language newspaper reported here today (Oct 31).

The woman's lawful husband had already been jailed, convicted on the offence of 'possession of drugs', the newspaper reported.

The suspects had 4100 milligrams of heroin in their possession at the time of their arrests, the newspaper reported.

They had plans of 'grand celebrations' for the coming of age party of woman's daughter.

The first heroin arrests in Sri-Lanka took place in 1981 when eight suspects were arrested with 277 Gm of heroine.

A clandestine laboratory converting Opium in to Heroine too was detected at Gonapinuwala, Hikkaduwa.
