Dr.Amunugama assures to setup an investor friendly environment in Sri Lanka

Colombo, 01 February, (Asiantribune.com): A special Investigation Unit will be setup to end corruptions and solve Investors grievances under the Ministry of Investment Promotion and Enterprise Development.

Assuming duties as the Minister of Enterprise Development Dr. Sarath Amunugama said this unit can minimize prevailing problems of the Investors and end corruptions at his ministry and the affiliated institutions.

At present the Board of Investment and a number of important institutions are administer by the Ministry of Enterprise Development, but Rev.Elle Gunawansa thero charged a number of malpractices and corruptions were seen at these institutions .

The minister said his intention is to solve investor related grievances within 48 hours. He said his ministry plans to obtain US$ 1 billion investments from overseas and develop Sri Lanka under the President’s vision.

Minister Amunugama clarified that he will reorganize institutional arrangements and create an investor friendly institutions .

According to the Ministry sources, the new minister has planned to setup another Free Trade Zone to accommodate overseas investors.

“My aim is to create jobs and develop rural economy under the Mahindha Chinthanaya,” he said.

Replying questions raised by the media, Dr.Amunugama said that he wanted to setup an immediate information cell to make aware local and foreign media on ministry’s activities.

“Media can help us to disclose corruptions and publish investor related stories, he said.

Dr.Amunugama was a former civil servant and held a number of cabinet portfolios and who earlier took intiatives to setup Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation during the UNP regime.

Speaking to media Rev.Elle Gunawansa thero said setting up another free trade zone is an important decision of the present government.

He also commended present investment promotion activities of the Mahindha Rajapaksha’s government and said Sri Lanka can defeat poverty if it grabs foreign investments.
