Sri Lanka government plans to defeat terrorism

Colombo, 26 March, (Asiantribune.com): The Government says it is determined to face any challenge in its fight against terrorism. It further points out all sections of the Sri Lankan society should extend fullest cooperation to the government in this national endeavor.

The LTTE terrorists are facing a severe defeat in the northern and eastern war front. It is common practice terrorists’ organizations to resort to cowardly attacks in the face of defeats in the battle front.

A special media release issued by the government in connection with the LTTE attempt to attack the Katunayake air force camp and says a light aircraft has dropped 3 bombs at the air base but only two of them exploded. Three air force personnel died and 16 others suffered injuries.

The release further says neither the fighter aircraft at the hangers of the air force camp nor the runner way was damaged. The Bandaranaike International airport is in full operation for all incoming and outgoing flights as scheduled.

The government reiterates it is the responsibility of all concerned to cast aside petty political differences and stand by the government to safeguard unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation and eradicate terrorism.

Commander-in-chief of the Sri Lanka Air Force has appointed a special board, comprising a senior official to conduct extensive investigations into the attempted terrorist attack on the Katunayake air force base.

Military spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe although the aim of the terrorist was to destroy Kafir and Mig fighter craft of the air force, they were only able to drop bombs into the army camp.

A Senior Police Spokesman SSP Roshan Fernando said the police has conducted a special search operations in Madampe , Marawila and Koswatte areas at dawn today to arrest LTTE suspects.
