Arson and Destruction Caused by Wahabis in the Name of Religion

All Ceylon Thareekathul Mufliheen, a Sufi order founded by His Holiness Seihul Mufliheen M.S.M. Abdullah (Rah) 35 years ago, with the aim of expounding the truth of Kalimathuth Thayiba “La Ilaha Illallah”, buried hitherto, with the demise of our beloved Prophet Mohamed (Sal) 1400 years ago. The Head office of All Ceylon Thareekathul Mufliheen is situated in Kathankudy; a town in the Eastern province of Sri Lanka predominated by Muslims of about 60,000 natives.

His Holiness M.S.M. Abdullah (Rah) through extensive research and studies, comprehending the true meaning of the fragrant Kalima, with a view to expound it to the world authored a series of books based on Holy Quran and Hathees. In particular, one of his publications titled “Emanin Unmayai Nee Arivaya” (Do you know the truth of Eman) clearly explains this truth. Here, he has established the fact that “Lailaha” means there is no creation and “Illallah” means only Allah. It is only Allah the truth and the creation its manifestation. Clear comprehension and unwavering faith in the Kalima will undoubtedly bring forth peace and tranquility for ever.

It has been trials and tribulations since then for his Holiness and his followers. They have been subjected to persecution and untold hardship by Wahabi Ulamas, leading to destruction of the meditation hall in the year 2004 followed by a chain of violent incidents, arson and destruction to the abodes and properties resulting in an enormous exodus of the followers from Kathankudy.

This matter was referred to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka for redress and their impartial investigations revealed the failure of the Police to provide security and necessary protection to avert this disaster. The meditation hall was reconstructed thereafter by the followers using their own funds.

In December 2006, His Holiness Seihul Mufliheen M.S.M. Abdullah (Rah) passed away and his body was laid to rest in the Thareeka premises according to his wish. Wahabis opposed to his doctrine chanted slogans that this burial was anti-Islamic and destroyed the meditation centre and the minaret, and the spiritual leader’s body was exhumed and was taken away by them presumably burnt or buried, the fate of it is unknown yet. Followed by this they set ablaze 117 abodes of the followers and were chased away from their place of birth, never to return back. Appeal to the higher authorities in Sri Lanka proved futile, hence this matter was taken up with the Court of Justice, the case being taken up for hearing.

We are determined to fight Wahabism which has spread its cancerous tentacles to this part of the country that has caused dissension and disunity among families and different communities in the name of religion.

It is our earnest appeal to you to extend your every possible support to highlight our state of affairs to the world and the dastardly acts perpetrated by the Wahabis in the name of religion which has beset the Muslims and the world at large with extremism.
