Nadesan, head of Tiger Police, replaces Tamilselvan

Colombo, 03 November, (Asiantribune.com): Leader of the Tamil Tigers, Velupillai Prabhakaran, has declared two days of mourning (until 5th of November) following the death of S. P. Tamilselvan, the Head of the Political section of the Tiger outfit.

He was killed on Friday morning when the Sri Lankan Air Force targeted a military complex in Thiruvaiaru, south of Killnochchi.

Four other high-ranking military cadres were also killed in the air raid. Tamilselvan was promoted to the rank of Brigadier posthumously. This is the highest rank in the Tiger force.

Tamilselvan is known to be a good marksman and had participated in several military operations before he was appointed as the head of the Political Wing of the Tigers.

Prabhakaran was also quick to fill the vacancy by appointing P. Nadesan as the new Political Head. This was announced by Irasiah Ilanthiryan, LTTE's military spokesman. Nadesan, who is currently in charge of the Tiger Police will be in charge of the two departments from now on, Ilanthirayan said.

Nadesan, a confidante of LTTE Leader Prabakaran raised the LTTE's police force to maintain law and order in the areas controlled by the LTTE. He was earlier in the Sri Lankan police. Having served in Sinhala-speakling areas, he is fluent in Sinhala besides Tamil and is also married to a Sinhalese lady from down south of Sri Lanka.

He has been in the LTTE delegation which participated in the abortive peace talks held in Geneva. He has participated in the talks with all the foreign delegations that visited Kilinochchi.

In the meantime Prabakaran leader of the LTTE paid his respects to Tamilselvan on Friday evening.

LTTE leader laid wreaths on the caskets of Brigadier S.P. Thamilchelvan and Lt. Col. Anpumani (Alex). Both were draped with Tiger flag.
