By M Rama Rao in New Delhi

New Delhi, 02 December ( Indian leadership gave a patient hearing to the new Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera who came here on a two-day visit.

This is his maiden visit abroad after Rajapakse government came to power and it has come at the invitation of New Delhi.

Expectedly, high on the agenda of his meetings here with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his deputy at the Foreign Office E Ahmed was the peace process with LTTE. Samaraweera apprised Singh of how the new regime is about to go about its task to resolve the ethnic conflict.

The impression given out later is that the talks were cordial and the visiting dignitary found his hosts receptive and understanding of the Colombo concerns.

Official sources said India is aware that lasting peaceful solution is going to be a long haul game and that Colombo could count on Delhi's supports as long as the effort is to take along all sections of the island.
