[b]Colombo, 14 February, (Asiantribune.com): [/b]The Second International Conference on Sustainable Hazard Reduction, Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Long Term Development (SHARM) was held recently at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.

Munasinghe Institute for Development (MIND) hosted the Conference in collaboration with Binghamton State University of New York.

Prof Munasinghe making the keynote address said, "90 percent of natural disasters and 95 percent of total disaster related deaths worldwide occur in the developing countries and the lives lost globally annually averages to 130,000 while in 2004 in Sri Lanka the number of persons lost was more than 35,000.

Prof Manas Chterji, Binghamton University also made a presentation at the Conference.
