By Neville de Silva - Diplomatic Editor Asian Tribune

London, 04 January (Asiantribune.com): The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission’s spokesperson has been accused of trying to "whitewash" the LTTE of responsibility for recent attacks on the armed forces in remarks to BBC Television last Thursday.

Angry Sri Lankans including Tamils living here and in Europe telephoned or emailed this corresondent to protest at the remarks of Helen Olafsdottir during an interview with BBC TV’s World Service.

The protests came from the UK and continental Europe, especially Germany, France and Switzerland.

In reply to a question by the BBC, Olafsdottir said the situation in Sri Lanka was "so dangerous at this very moment of time."
