Jaffna University to reopen on 08 March.

Colombo, 04 March, (Asiantribune.com): Lectures and other educational activities for the final year students of the Jaffna University will begin from 8th of this month. Despite the heavy presence of Army around the University precincts, students union has decided to urge for a phased opening of the educational activities in the University.

Earlier the Tamil Tigers had demanded the University students to give up their higher education temporarily and join the rank and file of the Tiger army to fight the Sri Lanka Government forces in their final belligerent campaign.

Subsequently, after 12 January on the insistence of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, the University student began boycotting lectures and the University was closed.

It's good that students go back to classes. At least for now there is no sign of war and above all there is SLMM to monitor Army's actions.

Also, LTTE needs time to decide what's their next action is. If Prabha keeps his word, he has to start the war before end of the year.

ragunath:

"Kids listen to this Majour Uncle's advice or else you will end up in SL Army in northEast region!Rally good one! He only know the pain of becoming a SL army and facing a tough job. I'm sure he see his fellow soldiers who dropped out of school in grade 5, 6 or 8 ended up in the Army and died, ran away, committed crimes etc."

You are a man with mean and cruel spirit.

See the definition for the army soldier. BrainY kids never fit in the army.
Besides, see how LTTE select it's caderS. At The begining all are shown propaganda videos and listened to such speeches. Secondly, any brainy kids are moved to other directorates.

Only the DUMB (either by birth or becuase of lack of the resources) will become KILLERS.

That is what LTTE needed with Jaffna university. I heard 40 kids from LTTE high rankers are studying abroad and that include Thamilselvam'S and two children of pabakaran.

You ragunath also preaches BS rhetoric becuase you only give money and not your children for the "tamil struglle".

YAMUNA;

ALSO HAS SO MUCH INSIDE INFORMATION ABPOUT SRI LANKA.

WHY DO YOU LET DOWN SO MUCH OF YOUR BIRTH COUNTRY. INSTEAD WHY DON'T YOU GIVEUP YOUR CITIZENSHIP AND ALL CONNECTOINS TO SRI LANKA.

Jaffna University...........................................

Dear raguna,
You forgot to mention that 55,000 of these 5th, 6th, 7th, & 8th standard types who joined the SL Army, ran away taking 30,000 weapons with them, and most are now part of the 'underworld', apart from being bodyguards to politicians - who are 'worshipped' by the army generals
for their 'promotions' ! - although Chandrika gave a "Triple Promotion" to Balagalle !
This must be the only army without Military Police (noone has seen them -
miscreants are arrested by the regular police) and wthout a single court martial during these past decades of conflict - all are well behaved ! !

"...In the meantime the Major General G.A. Chandrasiri, Jaffna Region Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, has urged the five Regional Directors of Education in the Jaffna peninsula, not to permit students to participate in activities outside schools during school hours..."

Is it also include the school children standing in scorching heat during an 'Honarable' minster's visit?

"...Army commander, according to reports has also said that students should not be forced to participate in any anti-government activities.."

Like running away from the SL Army without permission (AWOL- absence without leave)

"It is the duty of the teachers and directors of education to make the students interested in their educational activities," Major General Chandrasiri reminded the Directors of Educations ....."

It is better for the Tamils to listen to this experienced guy.

"It is the duty of teachers and directors to make the students interested in their educational activities" says the Army Commander of Jaffna Region.

Is he also aware that :-
Changes in the A Level Exam results from the Computerised Results to Results by some other criteria have decreased the ranks of tamil students, thereby decreasing their chances of university entry?
Tamil Textbooks are never distributed in time each year & that some schools do not get them at all unless after several appeals?
Vacancies in tamil schools for principals, teachers & non-academic staff are filled by sinhalese? and at the same time, that schools in other regions have excess sinhala staff?
That there is no Tamil Unit in the Ministry of Education and that several posts of tamil supervisory staff have been suppressed?
That Tamil Textbooks are not written by tamils and contain distorted information and grammatical errors for past several years, despite reprsentations made?
That Hinduism textbooks have not been written by hindu scholars and contain several errors?
That the textbook in social studies has 27 pages on sinhala history & nothing about the tamils?
That hundreds of schools - apart from those occupied by the army - need repairs to function fully?

With all these, does he expect tamil children to be interested in studies?
Why does he not meet & ask tamil teachers about their problems - and rectify them?
