Javier Solana has called for a strong commitment to peace Brussels, 22 February, (Asiantribune.com): Javier Solana European Union High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) has called upon the Government of Sri Lanka and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to show their strong commitment to peace and set the stage for a final political settlement of the conflict.

Javier Solana, issued a statement on Tuesday on the talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE to be held in Geneva from today - 22 and 23 February, expressing hopes and confidence that the Geneva talks would mark the beginning of a new process of confidence building between the two sides and will contribute to a climate conducive to peace.

"I hope that the meeting in Geneva will mark the beginning of a new process of confidence building between the two sides and will contribute to a climate conducive to peace."

He further suggested that the talks should give the country a chance to rebuild fresh momentum behind the peace process.
