JVP sold the house it was allowed to stay and threatens to kill the owners

Colombo, 25 September, ( A petition has been filed at the National Human Rights Commission by a person complaining against the Kandana Police and several Janatha Vimikthi Peramuna (JVP) members including the former minister Vijitha Herath for the failure of the Kandana Police to investigate a complaint lodged alleging that the complainant's house given to make the JVP office free of charge at Gampaha when the JVP once again joined the mainstream politics and subsequently JVP craftily and fraudulently manipulated to acquire the house, threatened to kill, abducted and kept.

According to what the house owner, D C Dharmadasa of Mercyland Gardens, No.762/14 Maththumagala, Ragama, says on a request by one Amarasooriya Ranjith Dias, a JVP activist, Dias' house was allowed to used as the JVP Office. Due to an emergency need this premises in extent 8 perches was mortgaged for Rs 30,000 in 2000 but subsequently redeemed the mortgage by owner himself. Then again on an emergency cash need the premise was mortgaged for Rs 100,000. This time he has mortgaged the premises to person known to be a Sri Lanka Freedom Party loyalist. But as the JVP feared that once the premises is mortgaged to an SLFPer would cause their office to be removed, on a request by the JVP Dharmadasa agreed to redeem the mortgage and re-mortgage the premises to a JVP activist, Herath Mudiyanselage Karunasena on a suggestion by the JVP with the Party funds.

The mortgage was entered by a lawyer Rukmal de Alwis on the intervention of JVP Provincial Council Member Eraj Chrishantha de Alwis. Dharmadasa says that he has executed all the agreements with the JVP with good faith, but subsequently when he wanted to redeem the mortgage so that the money would be given back to the JVP Funds, without his knowledge, the JVP has sold the property to one Ms Champa Samarakoon.
