[b]New Delhi, 09 November (Asiantribune.com): [/b]K R Narayanan, former Indian President is dead. He died of renal failure.

Narayanan, 84, who has been suffering pneumonia and renal failure, breathed his last at 1745 hours on Wednesday, according to a Defence ministry spokesman.

Former Indian President was admitted to the Army Hospital on October 29 after he complained of acute breathlessness. As his condition deteriorated, he was put life support system since October 31.
,br> Narayanan, a low caste Hindu by birth in Kerala, rose in life by dint of his hard work and intellect. He was a favorite student of Harold Laski who recommended his name to Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister. Laski's letter was his passport to Indian Foreign Service.

Naryanan distinguished himself as a diplomat in China, Washington and a host of world capitals. He was associated with the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) here in New Delhi, which came up as a Left leaning centre of higher studies during the early days of Indira Gandhi's rule and attracted talent from across India.
