Kathmandu tense after attempted attack on party office

Kathmandu, 05 December, (Asiantribune.com): Fresh protests erupted throughout the country on Sunday denouncing attempts on Saturday evening by hooligans to attack the headquarters of Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), situated in Kathmandu.

Several areas in central Kathmandu remained tense on Sunday after students protesting against the attack attempt pelted stones at policemen. Police resorted to firing tear gas shells. The protesting students are affiliated to All Nepal National Free Students' Union, a student wing of the party.

A group of hooligans had tried to attack CPN-UML office on Saturday to avenge the beating of pro-palace groups by CPN-UML supporters after a massive demonstration organized by the party in Kathmandu Friday. The party office was secured by security personnel on Saturday to avert the possible attack.

Several busy areas in central Kathmandu came to a halt for hours Sunday due to the student’s protests.
