Laden no more commands Al-Qaeda: US envoy

By Iqbal Hussain Khan Yousafzai – Reporting for Asian Tribune

Islamabad, 13 December (Asiantribune.com):Osama Ben Laden, the alleged mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks in the United Stated, was no more in command of the Al-Qaeda terror network, US Ambassador in Pakistan Ryan C. Crocker claimed.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, Mr. Crocker said Ben Laden was hiding in some far-flung area with no communication with his group members, so he was not leading the group.

US ambassador said releasing any video or audio tape in weeks or months duration could not prove that he was still operational commander of the outfit. He said he was unaware whether Ayman al-Zawahiri or someone else leading the terrorist group but after capture of Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and Abu Fraj Al-Libbi and killing of Hamaza Rabeea Al-Qaeda was in dire straits.

Replying to a question Ambassador Crocker said he didn’t know about fate of Hamaza Rabeea but when President General Pervez Musharraf said he was dead, he believes the president.
