Lies, deception, corruption, thuggery, favoritism under Ranil's regime

Ranil Wickremesinghe's image as "Mr. Clean" was dented severely when his regime sank in the mire of corruption. Asian Tribune presents Part III of its investigations into the "Mr. Clean's" record.

Ranil's links to dooshana (corruption) and beeshana (terror) of big businessmen.

15. Ranil's "catchers" moves to help UNP billionaire pay back Rs.10 million as settlement for Rs. 4.5 billion loan unpaid to the People's Bank.

Yasasiri Kasthuriarachchi, billionaire boss of Yasodha Enterprises and strong supporter of the UNP, was taken to courts by the People's Bank for not paying back billions borrowed from the Bank.

The Daily News reported: "Banking sources made the shocking disclosure that the People's Bank was in the process of settling a massive Rs. 4.8 billion debt owed it by Yasodha Group for little as Rs. 10 million. They said that the original sum owed the People's Bank was Rs. 4 billion and another Rs. 800 million accrued as interest on the loan."

While the case was in the courts R. Paskaralingam, one of Ranil Wickremesinghe's leading fixers, appointed another of Ranil Wickremesinghe's fixers, Dr. Wickrema Weerasooriya, as the arbitrator to settle the dispute between the People's Bank and Yasasiri Kasthuriarachchi.
