LTTE factor at work again in TN politics

LTTE factor at work again in TN politics

From our correspondent

Colombo, 05 March ( Walking in or walking out of an alliance is not new to Dravidian politics. Certainly to MDMK chief Vaiko. But why did he align with Jayalalithaa-led alliance on the eve of elections.

Grapevine here is that Vaiko was guided by the LTTE factor in his moves. There is no official word from either side but it is said that Vaiko's LTTE friends were of the view that AIADMK front would become formidable if MDMK closes its ranks with the Jaya’s party. The Dalit Panthers Party led by Thirumavalavan is already a Jaya ally.

Our sources say, though it is again very difficult to confirm, both MDMK and DPP were be getting some financial help to fight the elections. The amount that is being talked about is in the range of two-three crore Indian rupees. Money plays a big role in electioneering in India though there are official ceilings on what a party or a candidate can spend. It is said modern day campaigning is a costly affair.
