Washington, D.C. 13 September (Asiantribune.com): The international community must come down hard on front organizations (operating in western nations) of Sri Lanka’s Tamil rebel outfit LTTE which continue to fund its war chest through various disguises as charitable, cultural and even religious bodies abusing host country laws and regulations, declared senior advisor to Sri Lankan President and the country’s Peace Secretariat Secretary-General Jayantha Dhanapala to a distinguish and influential audience in Washington on Monday, September 12.

He attributed the fund flow to the LTTE war chest to the Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora living in western nations because they appear to have played a negative role in sustaining the conflict in Sri Lanka through their remittances.

Ambassador Dhanapala emphasized the potential role the Sri Lankan Diaspora – both Sinahalese and Tamil, can play in promoting peace and reconciliation in Sri Lanka.

Jayantha Dhanapala made these observations when he addressed a forum organized by the Asia Society, on the theme “Sri Lanka Peace Process: Problems and Prospects” which was held at the Willard Inter-Continental in Washington, D.C.

Joseph C. Snyder, Executive Director of the Asia Society’s Washington Center presided over the event, while Ambassador David N. Merrill, Senior Vice President of the Nathan Associates introduced Ambassador Dhanapala. Diplomats, representatives from corporate sector, NGOs, the media, as well as Sri Lankan expatriates attended the event.
