[b]Colombo, 11 December, (Asiantribune.com):[/b] President Mahinda Rajapakse had told the visiting Japanese Peace Envoy Yasushi Akashi that the facilitators and the monitors cannot be from the same country and there should be two separate entities to facilitate the peace process and to monitor the Ceasefire.

Presently both the facilitators and the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) are led by Norwegians, the Government Information Department announced today.

The President had told Ambassador Akashi that he would welcome monitors from Japan, South Asia and other Scandinavian countries to monitor the Norwegian brokered Ceasefire Agreement. Peace Envoy Akashi is reported to have had accepted the position taken by President Rajapakse.
