[b]A Moratuwa police officer abducted, assaulted, and robbed of his firearm and jewelleries[/b]

[b]Colombo, 06 September: [/b]The OIC, Minor Complaints Unit of the Moratuwa Police was abducted while he was on an official duty, at Rawathawatte area by an armed gang, then assaulted him mercilessly, tied his hands, robbed his firearm and his personal ornaments worth around Rs 75,000.

This incident took place day-before-yesterday (4th) around 9.30 pm. The abducted sub-inspector of police was taken in his own van which was later left abandoned in Panadura Bellana area. Injured sub-inspector of police A Premawansa was hospitalized and received treatment for his injuries.

Police suspects that the police officer has been abducted to rob his firearm and the gold ornaments he wearing.

Premawansa was on his way to Rawathawatte, Moratuwa to meet a private detective, in his van. A gang of three stopped his van, severely assaulted him, subsequently subdued him, then tied his hands, blind folded, hid him in the van and whisked away. While on transit it was reporteed that he was further assaulted, robbed of his Czechoslovakian made pistol which was in his possession and his personal jewelries he was wearing.

It was reported that the gang stopped the van at Maha Bellana, Panadura leaving Premawansa in the van and they slipped away.
