[b]Muslims and Indian Tamil parties to ally with Opposition and Government in the Local government polls[/b]

[b]Colombo, 13 February, (Asiantribune.com): [/b]The key political parties representing two minority communities - the Muslims and the Indian Tamils, have decided to form allies with the major parties at the forthcoming elections for 330 Local government bodies in the country.

The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, the major political party representing the Muslim community has decided to join with the main opposition United National Party, while the Ceylon Workers Congress and the Upcountry People's Front representing the estate workers have decided to join hands with the Government to contest the local polls.

Earlier, the Ceylon Workers Congress led by Arumugan Thondaman and the Upcountry People's Front led by T. Chandrasekaran extended their support to Oppositin Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the last Presidential elections.
