The recent municipal elections proved to be a rebuff to the Nepalese King Gyanendra and have been denounced by the 7-Party Alliance, the Maoist, the UN and the international community as un-democratic.
US Ambassador James Moriarty in a "Town Hall Meeting" for the American community stressed, "the need for maps to everyone’s homes", and promised GPS readings for all homes of US citizens by February 20th.
"Things are going to get worse in the coming months so please have your 'go-bag' ready so that you can evacuate in a minutes notice", the Ambassador warned and described the situation in Nepal as , "a mess and getting worse".

{The Maoist has threatened the King with execution for, "crimes against the Nepali people". }

Re: Nepal King plans exile: US Embassy expected to evacuate
Dear Editor,
I have gone thru the news posted on your site and could not agree in any points mentioned therein. Being a Nepali living in Neapl we are proud on our country. Yes, at present we are facing some problems because of insurgencies and innocent Nepalie are the main sufferer of the voilences. The innocent who do not have any other alternatives apart from vistimising themselves.
The majority of Neapli still hold the beleif that the King only can solve the present crises of insurgencies. And, our king has repetedly placing himself for the Nepal and Nepali. The royal move of Feb 1, 2005 was not the choice of the King but it was really necessary for the country and its people's interest.
It is quoted in your news that the The recent municipal elections proved to be a rebuff to the Nepalese King Gyanendra and have been denounced by the 7-Party Alliance, the Maoist, the UN and the international community as un-democratic. Please let me know how the recent election can be termed as un-democratic? As the people who beleives in demopcrecy were always in favor of the election, and who could go and cast their vote definately went to cast their vote despite of the blocade imposed by the Maoist and so called democretic parties. In fact the parties in Nepal who called them selves democretic are not near to any of the featuers whcich are essetial for the democrecy. Please answer me, in democrecy every body has to accept the terms dicted by any of the leader of the party or they have their choice to accept or no? If, the people of has choice to accept or not then how the so called political parties can blocked the roads and terroise the people. The casting rate of the last election was definatly less than the expected and less than the previous election's casting rate. You must have observed that the casting rate in the similer situation of the other coutries is some times even less than the present rate of Neapl and those election were accepted by international communities. In that case how the election of Neapl can be un-democratic.
Pleas tell your reporter to report the correct things we are ready to accept the truth but not the fails alligations. The king of Neapl can not not and will never to exile. If he even had to think about it he just keep quite and stay in side the palace and allow the parties to do any thing as per thier choice which the parties were doing before the feb 1 2005.
Please ask your reporter to update himself about the name of our king he is never called and Bir Bikram Shah. How could you post the news in which the name of the king is mentioned wrong.
If your reporter continue to report fails news we do not have any other option only to throw him out of the country and never allow him to come in here again in his life time.

Nepal King plans exile: US Embassy expected to evacuate
I don't know if you are an American or Dutch national but we in Nepal have seen a whole slew of "know-it-all" Westerners like you who seems to know exactly what's ailing Nepal and have the right prognosis for it.
"Nepal King plans exile: US Embassy expected to evacuate", is a shoddy piece of work whose main purpose is to mislead the readers in believing your much-hyped theory that the King is ready to run for cover soon.
Firstly, nobody calls the King, King Bir Bikhram Shah, as you do, it's King Gyanendra or King Gyanendra Shah or King Gyanendra Bir Bikhram Shah. It's Nepali and not Napali.
There are a lot of Ranas in the Army but they, in no way, control the it, as you would like to suggest. There are a whole lot of Thapas and Gurungs in the army hierarchy. In fact, it has been of Ranas' lament that they no longer seem to have a stronghold of the military.
US Embassy has denied that they'll be closing their embassy any time soon. What's with this scare tactic, comrade?
It looks like you are either an Indian agent or a novice reporter trying hard to get some limelight. May be a better gig than Asia Tribune.
Shame on you, Mikey!
Nepal King plans exile: US Embassy expected to evacuate
India and US wants the countries around india to be in a mess for their own reasons.
.
Nepal King plans exile: US Embassy expected to evacuate
I listened to a NPR broadcast about Nepal.
In that one insurgent leader told they may kill the king as they proceed.
I think it is better the King save his and his familes lives by being in exile.
I can not imagine countries around india go to that extremes.
I write what I believe to be true & sometimes I get it wrong as does any journalist.

As to the "Town Hall Meeting", I was given an e-mail detailing the meeting and quotes from Moriartiy. It was intended for those Americans who "were not there"....
The "headline in the AT was off base, but I stand by my article. Every word about the Embassy planning to "Evacuate Americans" came from the e-mail.. I have no information about the EMBASSY CLOSING DOWN & THAT WAS NOT IN THE ARTICLE..

News articles from any source must be read with a pound-of-salt and sifted through for helpful information, just like Blogs.. I read a thousand words to find 50 worthy of reading sometimes..
My hope is that Nepal will, with the 7-Parties and the Mabadi stop the war, send the King into Exile, and establish a Democratic Republic.
Thank you for your comments, Michael VanDeVeer
Despite Volatile Situation, US Will Stay in Nepal
Despite reports that Maoists insurgence in the Kingdom of Nepal is gaining grounds partially disabling the rule of King Gyanendra, and the King’s continued refusal to return this Himalayan nation back to democracy, the United States Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal yesterday, in a communication to 'Asian Tribune' said that the chancery is not "expected to evacuate" as suggested by 17 February report of the Online newspaper.
State Department's Richard Boucher, who testified before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee who are considering his nomination to serve as assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian Affairs on 16 February noted, “We face a difficult situation in Nepal. We believe Nepal’s internal struggle can only be addressed by the King taking steps to reverse the course he embarked on over a year ago – last February 1st – and to return to democratic government.”
Public Affairs Officer Robert L. Hugins of the American Embassy in Kathmandu however says in his communication to 'Asian Tribune' that on the important topic of "evacuation", the embassy "regularly advises, inform, and consult American citizens."
Following is the full text of the Public Affairs Officer's communication to 'Asian Tribune':
"The U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu is not “expected to evacuate” as a February 17 article in your Online publication stated. The report was wrong."
"Moreover, the article inaccurately attributed direct quotes to the U.S.Ambassador in Nepal, based on notes from a third party, about a discussion the Ambassador had had with American citizens."
"Security of American citizens in Nepal is of paramount importance to the Embassy. We regularly advise, inform, and consult American citizens on this vital topic. To correct your inaccurate report, we request that you distribute this message to your online readership."
