<b>Rt. Rev. Oswald Gomis to be installed Archbishop of Colombo</b>

The Bishop of Anuradhapura, Rt. Rev. Oswald Gomis will be installed as Archbishop of Colombo at a religious ceremony to be held on Saturday (27) morning at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena.

Rt. Rev. Oswald Gomis popularly known to Catholics as "Our Bishop" will take office as Archbishop of Colombo after the retirement of the present Archbishop of Colombo. Rt. Rev. Nicholas Marcus Fernando.

Rt. Rev. Oswald Gomis while serving as a father was the editor of the Sinhala Catholic Weekly, "Gnanartha Pradeepaya" published by the Catholic Society.

During the time he served as the editor, he brought about a new look to the ‘Weekly’ and therefore it was very popular among the Catholic community.

A continuous contributor to the Veritas Catholic Broadcasting Service. Rt. Rev. Oswald Gomis also authored several books on the Catholic religion.

He also initiated action to translate hymns from the Latin language to Sinhalese so as to enable the religious ceremonies in churches to be conducted in Sinhalese.

He also gave pride of place to Sri Lankan culture when holding church festivals. He was also the head of the Board of Bishops in Asia.

Rt. Rev. Oswald Gomis was born at Pilapitiya, a village adjoining Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihare.

Rt. Rev. Nicholas Marcus Fernando who retired from the office of Archbishop of Colombo was born in Munnakkarai, Negombo. He was dedicated to the upliftment of the Catholic Society and to improve all Catholic schools.
