US Policy, HR violations and war crimes - 'Pot calling kettle black'

By Dr.P.A.Samaraweera, Australia

Mohammed Noordin, Indonesia's militant leader and ally of Al-Qaida who masterminded a string of terrorist attacks across the Indonesian region for 7 years was killed with 3 of his aides on 18th September. He had been responsible for the Mariott Hotel bombing in 2003 which killed a number of foreign tourists and for the Australian Embassy attack.

He led the 'Bali bombing' with 3 suicide bombers in 2005 killing more than 20 and seriously injuring nearly 200 who were mostly American, British and Australian tourists. In July the same year he blasted the famous 'Twin Hotels' and he had been terrorising in areas wherever there were foreign tourists.

The comments by the US and its allies with regard to his death and reported in The Age (Australia) of 18th Sept. 2009, was, "... This is welcome news. This man has been a mass murderer, terrorist leader and had been responsible for the murder of Americans, British and Australians..." While congratulating Indonesia on their success it says "...It does'nt leave us in a position where we can feel complacent about the future... Al-Qaida and Jemah Islamaih are still well and alive..."

But the approach by the US and its allies to the LTTE and its leader who terrorised Sri Lanka for nearly 30 years is poles apart. They attempted wholeheartedly to rescue Prabhakaran and the LTTE because of the Tamil diaspora votes and funding. As the attempt made by the West did not materialize, after the war they tried to introduce a Resolution in the UN against Sri Lanka, but failed to gain international support.

Now the US is supposed to be making a move to submit a Report to the US Congress on the conduct of the Sri Lankan forces and on war crimes during the war against the LTTE. This is a strategy to pressurise Sri Lanka on the Human Rights front and isolate Sri Lanka.

US is of the view that the 'international community' is the US and its allies for the simple reason that they can influence the World Bank, the IMF, UN and other international agencies. But their attempts to destabilise Sri Lanka so far had failed due to support extended to Sri Lanka by unaligned nations.

US track record is seen in coutries like Vietnam where in every hotel room there is a brochure displaying the atrocities committed by the US army against civilians during the Vietnam war. At the time, in the eyes of the US army every civilian was Viet Cong. More recently, we see their approach in Iraq and Afghanistan. The US cannot deny the fact about their HR violations and war crimes in these countries.

Stewart Patrick, Director of International Institutions and Global-Governance Program, at the Council on Foreign Relations, Washington recently, observed, "...The US is far more comfortable as the maker of international rules than as subject to them..."

An independent UN HR Investigator in a Report in May 2009 says, "... The US, a nation that sits on other nations war crimes, human rights abuses, extra-judicial killings and HR situations is failing to properly investigate alleged war crimes committed by its soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq...There have been chronic and deplorable accountability failures with respect to policies, practices and conduct that resulted in alleged unlawful killings - including possible war crimes - in the US international operations..."

In 2003, US Major Gen. Antonio Taguba, who led the Army's investigation into the Abu Ghraib prisoner scandal, reported, "... There is no longer any doubt that the current administration (meaning Bush) committed war crimes..."

The above shows the duplicity of US policies, of HR violations and of war crimes. Thus the US perpetrated war crimes go un-probed.

Hillary Clinton's State

Hillary Clinton's State Department has no limits on hypocrisy. In her own words, there are two kinds of terrorists, i.e. good terrorists and bad terrorists. Bad terrorists are the ones who go after western targets. Bad terrorists had a very few successes in the past but they are very very very bad terrorists. Good terrorists like LTTE who had killed 70,000 innocent civilians in Sri Lanka are good terrorists because they contribute blood money to the western politicians and don't go after the west but only after the inferior little brown people. What these hypocrites don't know is that the rest of the world is not in a good mood to accept their words in the face value.

The Age (Australia) of 18th

The Age (Australia) of 18th Sept. 2009, was, "... This is welcome news. -----------

That alone speaks volumes and explains the thought processes which are involved.

No need to beat around the bush.

If you kill a white person, it is an unjustifiable brutal crime for which justice must be carried out either through revenge killings (Afghanistan) or kangaroo trials with paid for lying witnesses (Lockerbie bomber). The reasons or history behind why such an act was carried out are of no interest or value (to the West, its Media and people) whoever is responsible is a non-human demonic entity.

On the other hand if the recipient of similar violence/terrorism happen to be non-white then reasons and justification will be given, history shall be visited and the response of the West to the act of violence will depend on the links of the group/individuals responsible with the West, who the victims are and in which way Westerns interests and agendas are affected. If they do not effect the West or are indeed beneficial, they are thus encouraged and supported and provided "cover" (legal cover, financial assistance, Western media support with decimation of propaganda in favour of them, justification for their actions along with the victims being tarred as demonic aggressors).
In most cases the organisations responsible to acts of violence, terrorism, separatism and brutality have their operational networks actually based in the West with full backing and support from Western intelligence services, Governments and people, as is the case with the LTTE. Such terrorist and violent organisation play vital roles in furthering Western interests and hegemony and are perfect tools of interference and destabilisation against Nation States, Governments and people who pursue policies that do not sync with the West and policies which are by and large beneficial to the nation and people. These "force multipliers" and front organisations of the West are there to make sure countries fall in line, they thrive in resource rich however economically weak, socially and ethnically broken countries. They are not limited to violent terrorist groups but also include NGOs, journalists and others who are willing to work for the West.

The "out rage" at Sri Lanka emanating from the West is because Sri Lanka removed are vital strategic tool which had been given large amounts of investment and support. What you see is an attempt to tame Sri Lanka coupled with deep frustration the LTTE was destroyed and further frustration and anger that they had no real way of stopping Sri Lanka from destroying the LTTE or punishing Sri Lana for destroying the LTTE. So they made things up about a "blood bath/war crimes" (which the LTTE was to provide but the LTTE failed there too), they HATE being proved wrong and HATE having their dictates/authority being defied so bluntly as Sri Lanka did, so with no evidence for said "blood bath/war crimes" they concocted it themselves.

The LTTE promised to wipe the Army out at Kilinochichi so the West was all hush hush ready to wag their finger at Sri Lanka with their much arrogant "we told you so" the moment that occurred. What really happened? The LTTE created a mini flood by destroying the water tank to the town and ran away as they were unable to withstand the Army. At this point the West decided to intervene. Hence all the baseless statements (lies) coming out from their lackeys here (e.g. Gordon Wiess and his "shelling hospitals" to "cluster bombs"). So desperate they were that they ordered TamilNet to issue more ridiculous news items than usual to just having some material to attack Sri Lanka with. They wanted to stop the LTTEs annihilation so badly the only way to do so was to attack Sri Lanka with "war crimes", "indiscriminate shelling of civilians", "blood bath" and other rubbish and halt the war. Much unfortunately for them none of that actually happened. The LTTE failed to provide them their "blood bath" and other material evidence of "war crimes" against Sri Lanka despite the LTTEs desperate attempts to lure Sri Lanka into committing such acts with conditions for such openly engineered by the LTTE (later carried out by the LTTE itself). All of which is a testament to the sheer brilliance, skill and dedication of our Armed Forces, where soldiers were sacrificed to ensure safety of civilians.
