Sri Lanka President surprised the whole world!

President Mahinda Rajapakse who fulfilled his promise to the nation by eradicating 30 years’ war, proceeded further and made the entire world surprised by taking KP into custody, said Gotabaya Rajapakse, the Defense Secretary appearing for a live television programme.

"He never pushed the war away, but boldly affirmed that he would pursue the terrorists and counter act if they attack the forces."

During his discussion, the Defense Secretary further stated that the allegations against the government and the President that they violated human rights was a part of a conspiracy which attempted to rebuilding the LTTE by destroying the plans of the President. "All the efforts taken by us including the President, me and the forces to defeat terrorism were made with a clear vision."

The majority of people thought that our initiative would cease at that point; but the President didn’t stop at that point. The President surprised the whole world by gaining the exceptional victory of capturing the international leader of the LTTE, KP into custody.

The President had a clear plan of defeating terrorism even at the time that he was elected as the President in 2005. Therefore nobody can say that the victory was an unplanned or unexpected triumph.

Five months after the eradication of terrorism all the terrorist leaders who were hiding in the country could be captured. Since then the police officer who attempted four times to take the life of the President and the LTTE leader who was connected with many criminal activities in Colombo could be taken into custody.

Since then it has been able to discover many things including loads of weapons that were stored hidden in the country, we consider these achievements as the main investigation. In the meantime the suspect who attempted murdering General Sarath Fonseka too could be arrested. According to the information gathered from KP terrorism is spread across many countries in the world. The wealth that they possess is immense.

The President when making plans to defeat terrorism obtained the support of other countries which he thought would be very important. He had a good vision as to how the economy should be controlled and he kept his utmost confidence in the security forces. He planned everything with wisdom. The President looked into the 30 years war history and comprehended everything well and knew that he should have good rapport with India if Sri Lanka was to defeat terrorism.

Accordingly a group of officials including me as the Defense Secretary, President’s Secretary, Lalith Weeratunga and Basil Rajapakse, established direct links with Indian officials; this initiation helped developing a true and honest affiliation between the two parties and it helped in creating a pleasant atmosphere within Indian government officials. Not only that, the President established highest level relationships with state leaders. These relationships were very helpful when making efforts to capture KP. It was a very well planned effort.

Much information could be gathered through questioning KP. Still we do questioning with much patience. Much information about local and foreign conspirators against the government has also been revealed. KP was a person who was a close confident of Prabakaran. He is the person who maintained the power of weapons that the LTTE held by purchasing weapons from foreign countries and dispatching them to Sri Lanka. He had been the LTTE leader responsible in financial transactions at international level. He was involved in raising funds for LTTE for more than 20 years. Much information about the LTTE’s international network could be discovered from him.

According to the information gathered from him there are more leaders to be taken into custody. There is more information to be obtained. In this regard there are many craftily planned initiations that are taking place both locally and internationally.

There were people who turned the war into a fiddle for 30 years. Therefore the main point that the President pointed out was the manner in which purchasing of weapons should take place. We purchased weapons from countries including China and Pakistan. The transactions took place directly between those governments and ours; it didn’t take place through a third party. An institution under the government was established for that purpose alone and the process of purchasing was done in a very clear and clean manner. As such there was no opportunity at all for corruption during the process of purchasing of weapons. The proceeds of transactions were sent to the Treasury.

The President had been continuously telling that a welfare programme should be initiated for war heroes – the soldiers who were the people behind weapons. In the village established in Ipalogama 1500 houses were erected for soldiers by using money from the Treasury. Our aim is to build houses for each and every soldier.

We know that 84.7% of those who had been in battle front were from soldier to corporal. They sacrificed everything not to gain privileges, but to gain victory to this country.
