MPs' team has made India a laughing stock: Swamy

From S Murari, Chennai
Chennai, 13 Oct (Asiantribune.com):

Natarajar.JPGThe DMK-Congress delegation of MPs, now on a visit to Sri Lanka, has made India's position ridiculous because the team is led by Mr T R Baalu, who was not given a place in the second succesive United Progressive Alliance Government by Prime Minister.

Manmohan Singh because of charges of corruption against him, Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy said in a statement on Monday.

Apparently referring to an Indian newspaper report that Mr Baalu threw his weight about with the Vavunia government agent and reduced her to tears, Dr Swamy said the delegation "has already become the laughing stock in world press, because they have no other purpose in Sri Lanka except to throw their weight around and boost the morale of the rump LTTE on the run in Sri Lanka."

Though Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has said the MPs' expenses have been borne by their respective parties, Dr Swamy alleged they had gone at tax payers' expense and the Chief Minister should apologize to the people "for bringing the nation into international disrepute".
