Sri Lanka; State Drama Festival Begins as Courts Withdraws Injunction Order

apahu_harenna_be.jpgAs Colombo District Court yesterday (November 03) removed an injunction against the holding of the final round of the State Drama Festival, it will be held as arranged early, an official from the Cultural Affairs Ministry told Asian Tribune.

Accordingly, the State Drama Festival will be held from today onwards till November 10 at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre, Colombo 07. The Ministry spokesman said that this year festival is being held concurrently with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the State Drama Festival.

Five Sinhala dramas and two Tamil dramas have been selected for the final round and 'Ahinsakyinge Aramaya' produced by Sanjeewa Upendra will be staged today.

'Welava Keeyada' by Sahan Ranwala, 'Jagan Ma' by K.B. Herath, 'Apahu Herenna Be' by Rajitha Dissanayake and 'Sihinawalata Pata Denna' by Sunil Chandrasiri will be staged from tomorrow onwards daily.

Two Tamil dramas which have been selected for the final round is 'Muttai' produced by Mohan Kumar and 'Aal Kadalil Oru Saptham' produced by K. Selvaraj will be staged on November 09 and 10.

The court had issued a stay order on a petition filed by drama producer and the case has cited 15 respondents. The Ministry spokesman said that Colombo district court removed the injunction after considering the explanations by the officials of the Department of Cultural Affairs. The case will be taken up again on November 11.
