Home Secretary level talk between India and Nepal is set to begin in Kathmandu on Friday.

Officials at Home Ministry said the two-day talks will focus on measures to ensure effective cooperation in combating terrorist activities and trans-border crimes between the two neighboring countries. Nepal and India share 1,800-km open border.

Indian Union Home Secretary G.K. Pillai is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on Thursday to hold a meeting with his Nepali counterpart Dr Govinda Prasad Kusum.

Officials said the two sides will discuss issues of bilateral concerns relating to security and border management. Nepal will seek India’s cooperation in controlling criminal activities taking place in the troubled tarai districts in southern parts of the country. Indian side is expected to raise the issue of criminal and terrorist activities in the border as well as routing of fake Indian currency from Nepal.

The home secretary-level talk between the two countries holds significance as it is being organized in the wake of senior Indian leaders alleging Nepal Maoists behind the killing of police personnel in Maoists’ attacks in various states in India
.
The meeting is part of a network of institutional mechanisms that India and Nepal have set up in the area of security cooperation.

During his visit, Union Home Secretary Pillai will also call on Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Home Minister Bhim Rawal.
