Bogallagama’s Weird Thanks

By L. Jayasooriya

We hear from the media that after the release of General Sarath Fonseka from the American trap, Bogallagama has thanked all the American establishments connected to it including the American ambassador in Sri Lanka.

He somehow or other seems to have forgotten to thank Robert O Blake and Hillary Clinton.

What America did to us was like permitting a man to enter a house for a legitimate cause and on entry lock the front and back doors to interrogate him to extract information with implied personal threats against him if he did not comply. There was no need for Bogallagama to thank America for what it attempted to do to us. Where in the world do you get that kind of thanking?

It is this ‘greatest nation on earth’ mentality that prompts to treat others with contempt, the driving force to this stupidity. Why did America cave in to the implied demand by Bogallagama? It was only on their realization that if Sarath had been harmed in any way, no American would be safe in Asia. So this is yet another defeat for America this time at the hands of Bogalagama.

So it seems that their ‘greatest nation on earth’ is not functioning. What they do not know is that it no longer exists except in their minds.

According to research by Asian Tribune the law that enabled to question Gen. Fonseka was passed early this year. Presumably it was done in anticipation of Gen. Fonseka returning to get his American citizenship.

If America did not jump the gun but had given him the citizenship after taking the oath of allegiance America will argue that it had the right to question any of its citizens on any matter.

They could even have sent him to Afghanistan as a private to fight the American war in Afghanistan. That is the danger facing any citizen who while retaining his native citizenship acquires American citizenship.

As I have said before what country in the world offers citizenship on a raffle that will in the end select the young and healthy as cannon fodder?

There was a time when it was Vietnam but at that time there was no raffle and anybody who applied got his citizenship only to wind up in Vietnam from where he may never have returned.

Today it is Afghanistan. Tomorrow it will be some other country. They have wars all over the world mostly instigated by the CIA and some where they get directly involved. ‘The sun never sets’ on American wars throughout the globe. Thanks to Winston Churchill.
