Civilians’ travel restriction from Jaffna to Colombo eased

By Anjana Jayashan in Colombo
Colombo, 18 November, (Asiantribune.com):

Civilians’ travel restrictions from Jaffna to any part of the country have been eased effective from today.

Earlier even after the war with the LTTE was over, the government continued with the clearance restrictions, if in case any civilians were to travel from Jaffna to Colombo or to other parts of the country.

They have to get the clearance from the relevant officials in Jaffna stating reasons and need for their travel to Colombo or elsewhere outside Jaffna.

However from today onwards the existing travel clearance restriction has been eased, Northern Province Governor G.A.Chandrasiri told the Asian Tribune

With the relaxing of the procedure, those who intend to travel to Colombo for any reason by public transport are advised to carry with them their national identity card. Also they have to keep with them three photocopies of their identity card.

Civilian passengers at the commencement of their journey should get in one of their ID photocopies authenticated by the relevant authorities and bring it also along with them.

Those who use private transport means to travel to Colombo have to continue with the normal procedure.
