The top Hindi film heroine of the 90s Madhuri Dixit (42) is set to play the role of Indira Gandhi in a biopic planned on the late Indian Prime Minister.
Madhuri who ruled the Hindi celluloid for two decades settled down in Los Angles after her marriage to a NRI doctor Shriram Nene. The couple have two sons.
Film trade circles say that noted Bollywood film maker Krishna Shah would produce the film on Indira Gandhi. He is said to be working on the script for close to two decades.
The film to be shot in Hindi with English thrown in for equal measure is likely to go on the floors some time in April next year.
Madhuri Dixit has tried to stage a comeback in Bollywood but the vehicle chosen for the return – film ‘Aaja Nach Le’ failed to ignite the box office.
PIL On Kurban Rejected
Kurbaan, a new Hindi flick featuring Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor, is all set to hit the Theatres on Friday and it may well cash in on the controversy it has generated with some steamy scenes and posters showing the back of the leading lady.
The Bombay High Court has rejected a request of a public interest petition for a stay on the release of the film but issued notices to film producer Karan Johar and the two lead actors, Saif and Kareena as also the director and lyric writers to give their response to the complaint that two of the songs in the film are vulgar.
The petition has been posted for further hearing on January 14, 2010. The issue came up before a division bench of Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice AM Khanvilkar.
It appears the petitioner had knocked at the doors of the Film Censor Board last with the very same objections he had presented before the High Court but the censors did not take any action.
