Colombo, 21 November, (Asiantribune.com):

Fonseka_01.jpgFormer Army Commander and Chief of Defense Staff General Sarath Fonseka has rented out a house in the most luxurious location in front of Royal College, Colombo, almost next to the Chinese restaurant.

General Sarath Fonseka continued to reside in his official residence located in the Army Headquarters, even after his resignation has been officially accepted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa with immediate effect.

Defence Ministry sources told that once General Fonseka’s resignation was officially accepted, he is a civilian. Sources added that civilians have no place inside the Army Headquarters, therefore he has been asked to vacate his official residence.

Accordingly he found the house belongs to one Mr. Keerthi Ranaweera.

Keerthi Ranaweera is the son of Mr. Donald Ranaweera, a former MP and also the owner of the Times Building, Fort in the heart of the Colombo city.

The monthly rental is SLR1million and the General Fonseka has already paid 1 year advance payment of SLR 12 million for the newly rented-out house.

Asian Tribune also learnt that already a part of the household stuffs belonging to General Fobseka are being brought in from his Army Headquarters bunglow

Gen. Fonseka is now a civilian with all the rights to live where he wishes. However, the wisdom of such a high security residence right opposite Royal College where so many young people who attend the school would be put at risk, is questionable.

It all depends of course on what the General hopes to do in the future, and whether indeed he plans entry into top-level politics.
